james m. damato,
Mr. Damato co-directs zpd+a's architecture, interiors, and planning practice. He leads program development, planning and design for shell-and-core as well as corporate interiors projects. His primary role is to provide each client with prompt, effective responses regarding executive level decision making, as well as to oversee project team activities from project inception to completion. With his 30-plus years of architectural experience, Mr. Damato possesses a keen attentiveness to quality control / quality assurance for all aspects of project design and delivery.
Since co-founding an architectural practice in 1982, Mr. Damato has developed project-based organizational methods that promote team consensus building, allowing clients to focus on critical decisions in a prioritized manner. Repeat business from corporate clients led to diversification of the practice in 1993 to focus on facilities planning, design, and development consulting services.
Mr. Damato's proven record of performance has enabled zpd+a to maintain satisfying long-term relationships with a variety of clients including such blue-chip firms as Health Care Service Corp., Digital Equipment Corporation, AT&T and Dearborn Financial Services. In 1993, BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois selected Mr. Damato to assemble and direct a multi-disciplined team that provided programming, design, scheduling, construction administration, move coordination and project documentation for a new 29-story, 1.3 million sq. ft. corporate headquarters building at 300 E. Randolph in Chicago. In 2005, he worked directly with BlueCross BlueShield on site selection, programming and conceptual design options for a BCBS New Mexico Headquarters in Albuquerque, and he subsequently directed a planning and design team for the 1 million sq. ft., multi-floor tenant occupancy for a new BlueCross BlueShield headquarters facility in Richardson, Texas.
